On March 27th, Breitbart News reported that California Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D) warned senator Leland Yee (D) to resign or face suspension. Yee “refused to step down,” so the senate suspended him. However, he will continue to draw his $95,291 salary.
Yee was indicted after allegedly offering to help an undercover FBI agent procure “$500,000 to $2.5 million [worth of weapons], including shoulder fired automatic weapons and missiles.”
The New York Times describes Yee as a senator who “had championed gun control and [pushed] bills targeting violent video games sold to minors.”
State Senator Joel Anderson (R-36th Dist.) was the lone vote against Yee’s suspension. Anderson argued that Yee “should be expelled” rather than just suspended, and that “it was wrong that [Yee] should continue receiving [his] $95,291 personal salary.”
