Sarah Palin Endorses Ben Sasse for Senate in Nebraska

Describing anti-Obamacare candidate Ben Sasse as the “clear conservative choice in the Nebraska Senate race,” former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin endorsed Ben Sasse’s U.S. Senate candidacy on Thursday.

Sasse has been surging in the polls against his primary challenger, Shane Osborn, by running against Obamacare and the permanent political class in Washington.

“I have said from the very beginning of this campaign that the problem in D.C. is that we have a government of Democrats with big-government bad ideas and Republicans regularly with no ideas. That is not good enough,” Sasse told Palin. He added:

We have got to be a party that sells the conservative vision of the future. I have also said that the GOP establishment in this country does not understand that the house is on fire and we have to save this country – not tomorrow, or next year, or at some debt-crisis moment in five years, but now.

Palin wrote that Sasse is a “proven problem solver” who took over as president of Midland University in his hometown as the “school was on the verge of bankruptcy.”

“But under Ben’s steady leadership and commitment to make tough decisions and reform old policies, Midland is on the path to recovery and has nearly tripled enrollment,” Palin wrote. “Today, it’s the fastest growing school in the Midwest. We need those kinds of results in D.C.”

Palin also mentioned that Sasse knows “how dysfunctional D.C. is” because “he’s witnessed firsthand the corrosive effect bad big government policies can have, and he knows that Obamacare is as bad as it gets.”

“Ben is a leader we need in D.C. now. He won’t forget who sent him there because his life is firmly grounded in his small town Nebraska roots. His family goes to a church where his great-great grandpa carved the altarpiece that is still there today,” she wrote, adding:

Ben has his cornhusker common sense and his lovely wife Melissa and their three kids to remind him of what’s important. Melissa is a fellow “hockey mom” to both of Ben’s daughters who play hockey as the only girls on the boy teams. They’ll be able to remind their papa to “Fight like a girl!” in defense of We the People.

Palin, who urged her followers to visit www.sassefornebraska.com for more information about Sasse, is the person whose endorsement has the most impact in GOP primaries according to Heritage Foundation President and former South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint.

Polls have found that Sasse is anywhere from ten points behind to virtually tied with Osborn, and Sasse is hoping he can get the same amount of momentum and buzz that Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer got in 2012 after Palin endorsed her. Nearly a third of GOP Nebraska primary voters are still undecided.

As Breitbart News reported, Palin proved how valuable her endorsement is in Nebraska during the 2012 election cycle. The Republican establishment spent millions backing Jon Bruning, while Washington’s conservative establishment, including Freedom Works, spent millions backing Don Stenberg. But after Palin wrote a 135-word Facebook post to endorse Deb Fischer, the then-unknown candidate suddenly had “momentum, buzz, and name identification” and rocketed to the top of the polls en route to wins in the primary and general election.

Sasse hopes to follow Fischer’s path to Washington.
