Governor Chris Christie's Bodyguard Charged with Shoplifting in Pennsylvania

One of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s (R) bodyguards was charged with shoplifting in Berks County, PA. He has since been suspended without pay.

According to CBS Philly, 35-year-old State Trooper William Carvounis was part of “the executive protection unit and had been on Christie’s security detail.”

Police in Tilden Township, PA, allege Carvounis may have “stolen nearly $300 in gun supplies and other merchandise from a Cabela’s sporting goods store.” CCTV “also caught Carvounis tearing the price tag from a Cabela’s hat, which he wore while trying to leave the store.”

When caught, Carvounis told those who apprehended him that he too was in law enforcement and asked “again and again for a little professional courtesy.”

Carvounis’s lawyer denies that his client was shoplifting or “asking for special treatment.”
