Kentucky Senator Rand Paul said that he tried to sign up his son through the Kentucky healthcare exchange, “you know the one that the Democrats said was so good,” but that he was “erroneously” sent a Medicaid card instead.
Sunday on ABC This Week, the Senator held up the Medicaid card and explained that he was not trying to get his son Medicaid, but that he was trying to pay for his insurance. “They automatically enrolled him in Medicaid,” he remarked. “For a month, they wouldn’t talk to us because they said they weren’t sure he existed. He had to go down to the welfare office, prove his existence. Then the next thing we know, we get a Medicaid card.”
Paul, a Tea Party favorite and a possible 2016 presidential candidate, is an adamant critic of Obamacare. He referred to the new law as an “unfolding disaster” and does not have high hopes for it to “get any better sometime soon.”
“So, really, most of the people in Kentucky are automatically being enrolled in Medicaid,” Paul said. “I’m trying to pay for insurance and can’t pay for it. And I’m uncertain now whether I’m enrolled in D.C. and/or Kentucky… It’s a mess.”
