Spanish Version of Obamacare Website Delayed for Weeks

With just four days until the grand opening of Obamacare’s healthcare exchanges, the Obama Administration quietly told Latino groups on Wednesday that the Spanish version of the healthcare.gov website will not be ready for weeks. 

The delay could potentially affect the online enrollments of the ten million Latinos eligible for Obamacare–four million of whose primary language is Spanish, reports the Associated Press. 

Latino groups like the National Council of La Raza expressed disappointment that the government, which had years to implement its system, will fail to make good on its October 1 promise. 

“It’s been at least two years since we’ve known that Latinos are a primary target for enrollment through the Affordable Care Act, so we would have hoped that the administration would have the rollout ready on Day 1,” said health care policy director for the National Council of La Raza Jennifer Ng’andu. She said La Raza won’t object if it takes a few more weeks to iron out any glitches in the system. 

Nationwide, Obamacare remains highly unpopular. A recent CNN poll found that 57% of Americans oppose “all” or “most” of Obamacare, while only 39% of respondents expressed support for the law.
