A new Pew Research poll found that 71% of Republicans and independents who support the Tea Party movement disapprove of the Republican leadership.
The poll was released on Wednesday, the day after conservatives rallied in Washington for the “Exempt America” rally to defund Obamacare against the budget plan favored by the House leadership. And on Wednesday, House Republican leaders, knowing they lacked the 218 votes, delayed a vote on what conservatives criticized was a “gimmick” of a rule and a “symbolic vote” to make it seem like Republicans in the House were trying to defund Obamacare.
As The Hill noted, a Pew poll last month also found that “53 percent of Tea Party supporters say congressional Republicans have compromised too much.”
Pew “surveyed 657 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents,” and the poll’s margin of error is 4.5 percentage points.
