Heritage Action, a conservative non-profit social welfare organization affiliated with the Heritage Foundation, announced last week it will be holding nine town halls throughout the month of August focused on efforts to defund Obamacare in the upcoming Continuing Resolution (CR).
Heritage Action CEO Michael Needham, Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint and Rafael Cruz, the father of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), will begin their tour on Monday Aug. 19, in Fayetteville, AR. On Aug. 20, the trio will visit Dallas, TX, then head to Tampa, FL, on Aug. 21. On Aug. 22, they go to Nashville, TN, then they go to Birmingham, AL, on Aug. 23.
On Aug. 26, the group heads to Indianapolis, IN, then to Columbus, OH, on Aug. 27, Pittsburgh, PA, on Aug. 28, and Wilmington, DE, on Aug. 29.
“Four years ago, citizens crammed into town hall meetings all across the country to exercise their First Amendment right,” Needham said in a release announcing the tour. “Although Congress is now doing fewer and fewer town hall meetings, the need for civic engagement has never been greater, so Heritage Action is stepping in to fill the void. Thanks to the work of Heritage Action Sentinels and others, we’ll make sure lawmakers understand the American people expect them to defund Obamacare in its entirety.”
DeMint added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Heritage Action and to travel across the country to spend time with real Americans rather than Washington politicians. We want to hear directly from people in local communities who often suffer from Washington’s out-of-touch policies. Fortunately, Washington doesn’t have to win. We have an opportunity to change the direction of our nation by defunding Obamacare and advancing conservative policy solutions that will help place us back on the path toward fiscal responsibility.”
Details on the tour, including specific event locations and times, can be found on Heritage Action’s website.
