Federal Workforce Drops to Lowest in Five Years

Thanks in part to the much-criticized sequestration cuts effected by Congress and President Obama this year, the federal workforce dropped to its lowest point in five years in May. With the month’s cut of 14,000 federal jobs, the federal payroll now stands at 2,749,000, the lowest since February 2008. That’s 20 percent off the high water mark of 3,415,000 in May 2010. Postal Service cuts account for a disproportionate share of the cuts.

Federal payrolls are expected to skyrocket again with the implementation of Obamacare.
