Terrorism Expert: Boston Bombers Unsophisticated

According to Brian Jenkins, senior advisor on terrorism to the president of the RAND Corporation and director of the National Transportation Security Center at the Mineta Transportation Institute, told Los Angeles media on Tuesday that he believes the person or group behind the Boston Marathon bombing attacks was not sophisticated. “These were probably, and fortunately, crude devices,” he said.

Jenkins continued by breaking down the possible perpetrators into three categories: “an individual or tiny conspiracy inspired by some foreign ideology like al Qaeda’s ideology”; “a plot by domestic ideologically motivated extremists”; or “individuals motivated by their own mad ideology carrying out acts of violence.”
