Gun Maker Leaving Connecticut, Urges Others to Follow

On April 10, gun manufacturer PTR Industries announced it is leaving Connecticut and urged other gun companies to follow its example. 

The announcement came six days after Democrat Governor Dannel P. Malloy signed 139 pages of new gun control legislation into law. This legislation expands Connecticut’s already stringent “assault weapons” ban by adding 100 more weapons to it. It also bans “high capacity” magazines, establishes universal background checks within the state, and puts controls on ammunition purchases, among other things.

In a statement from the company, PTR said the passage of the gun legislation confirmed their worst fears, “[It is] a bill fraught with ambiguous definitions, insufficient considerations for the trade, conflicting mandates and disastrous consequences for the fundamental rights of the people of Connecticut.”

PTR Industries is urging other Connecticut gun manufacturers to follow their example and leave the state as well: “[It’s time to] show our politicians the true consequences of their hasty and uninformed decisions.”
