An International Defensive Pistol Association competition scheduled to be held on July 4 in Montrose, CO, three days after the state’s new magazine ban will go into effect, has been been canceled due to concerns over the inability to legally acquire magazines for the shoot.
Moreover, because 300 shooters were scheduled to attend from all over the country, there were concerns that shooters bringing their own “high capacity” magazines might be found in violation of the new laws.
Match coordinator Walt Proulx explained, “If someone were planning to come to the events, and for some reason needed to get new magazines for [the guns] they brought with them on July 2, they would technically be in violation as soon as [their plane] touched the ground.”
The cancellation of this event comes on the heels of Ruger Firearms’ announcement that they will be moving the 2013 Ruger Rimfire Challenge World Championship out of the state of Colorado as well.
