Peter Schweizer, the president of the nonpartisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI), referred to Washington, D.C. as a “new Versailles” that is being built with “borrowed money.”
In “Boomtown,” an explosive one-hour investigative special that aired on Fox News’ Hannity on Friday, Schweizer said Washington is flooded with money, and “a lot of that is borrowed.”
He called D.C. a “parallel universe” where there are jobs solely dealing with the country’s massive debt. Schweizer said the permanent political class on both sides of the aisle have a direct financial interest in expanding the size and scope of government.
Schweizer, Steve Bannon, Breitbart News’s Executive Chairman, and Hannity examined how D.C. has come to be the country’s wealthiest region despite not producing anything of value.
Bannon noted that the founders never wanted D.C. to be like European countries such as France where wealth and talent were extracted from the country’s citizens and concentrated in a centralized location.
