NYC's Brooklyn Battery Tunnel Flooded

New York’s MTA has posted photos on Flickr showing flooding in the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, formerly called the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, due to Tropical Storm Sandy.

The caption for the photo says: “Floodwaters from Hurricane Sandy enter the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (former Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel). Governor Andrew M. Cuomo ordered the tunnel closed at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012.”

Other photos posted by the MTA show “Gov. CuomoMTA Chairman Joseph J. Lhota and New York City Transit President Thomas F. Prendergast inspected flooding at the Battery. Subway tunnels have experienced flooding but pumps are handling it for now.”

Flooding in Battery Park is severe, with water levels at least three feet higher than ever previously reported and still rising.
