After a dominating debate performance, Mitt Romney has taken the lead over President Obama in Virginia. According to a Marist poll, Romney leads Obama by one point, with 48% of the vote. In last week’s Marist Virginia poll, Obama led Romney by two points with the race at R48%-O46%.
According Marist, Romney now leads Obama by 8 points (50% to 42%) among independents. Last week, Romney led by just one point among independents in the Marist Virginia poll.
Forty-nine percent of Virginians now see Romney favorably, up from 45% last week.
Though Romney won voters who made up their minds after the debate, 91% of voters surveyed by Marist said they had already chosen their candidate before the debates.
The poll, when considering Republican-leaning independents, had an R 1 sample. Marist’s last Virginia poll, which had Obama leading by two points, had a D 3 sample.
Marist conducted its poll Oct. 7-9. The poll’s margin of error with likely voters is /- 3.1 percent.
