Carol Wood, University of Virginia Associate Vice President and University Spokesperson, claimed yesterday in an interview with the Washington Post that the 1991 University of Texas whitewash report into allegations of scientific misconduct made against UVA President Teresa A. Sullivan and Massachusetts Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren exonerated them:
“Sullivan is married to U-Va. law professor Douglas Laycock; they have two grown sons. She has few detractors in Charlottesville. But recently [President Sullivan] issued a rebuttal to a blogger’s account of accusations from 1990, when a reviewer alleged scientific misconduct in a book Sullivan wrote with Elizabeth Warren, now a Democratic candidate for Senate in Massachusetts, and another co-author.
“At the time, Sullivan was on the University of Texas faculty. The University of Texas investigated the allegations and found them to be false, as did the National Science Foundation, which funded the research, said U-Va. spokeswoman Carol Wood.”
This morning, I sent an email to Ms. Wood and posed two specific questions:
[A]s I reported in this article at Breitbart.com yesterday, the 1991 University of Texas investigation was neither thorough nor exculpatory. In fact, it was riddled with factual errors, five of which are spelled out in my article, University of Texas Whitewash of Elizabeth Warren Scientific Misconduct Charge Entangles UVA, UC Presidents.
Have you read the article?
Given the numerous factual errors in the Texas report, are you still claiming it exonerated President Sullivan?
Please consider this a formal request for comment in a story that will be published today.
Ms. Wood has not yet responded to my inquiries.
