Pennsylvania State Representative Babette Josephs believes that a woman who supports mandatory ultrasounds for abortion-seekers is really a man with breasts — and the local Democratic organization agrees with her. A bill that was brought by Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania requiring pre-abortion ultrasounds was pulled two weeks ago, but that wasn’t sufficient for Josephs.
Josephs said the women sponsoring the bill “do what the men tell them … They must believe that they are not capable of making their own health care choices, but they are capable of voting on bills that control all of our behavior … I don’t understand it … I don’t believe they’re really women … I believe they’re men with breasts.”
Sally Lyall, chair of the Lancaster Democrats, the organization sponsoring the rally, echoed Josephs, saying: “That’s her way of questioning the bill, and we support Babette … We don’t move ahead if we don’t get people’s attention. If this gets people thinking, that’s the point of a rally like this.”
Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading abortion provider, performs pre-abortion ultrasounds on women – but only after they agree to have an abortion. Opponents of abortion feel that if a woman receives an ultrasound before the abortion procedure, she may reconsider once she sees the living being inside her. They also argue that abortion is not risk-free, and a woman has a right to know exactly what is going on inside her body.
Seven states already mandate ultrasounds before abortion. National statistics on abortion show that 10% of women undergoing induced abortion suffer from immediate complications, of which one-fifth were considered major. But such concerns are apparently inadequate to explain the pro-ultrasound position. It is becoming increasingly clear that it is the left that fights a war on women – and even more specifically, the pro-choice left, which slanders women who oppose it as being non-women altogether.
